Use BioLogs instead of rip-rap to stop soil erosion naturally. Biologs are made of coconut fibers, and you can plant native grasses and shrubs directly into them. Wildlife such as turtles can travel over biologs from water to land and back, which they can't do with rip-rap. Biologs biodegrade after about 5 years,after the natural plantings have taken root and serve as soil erosion control for the future. They are also much less expensive and easier to install than rip-rap or bulkheads!
