The Weems Creek Watershed Improvement Plan

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

You are invited to attend a Weems Creek Watershed meeting on:

Thursday, March 20, 2003 - 7:00pm
Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
Tawes Building, 580 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis

The purpose of this meeting is to present the findings from the year long Weems Creek Improvement study and the status of various environmental enhancement projects undertaken by State, County, City and private agencies in the watershed. This comprehensive study includes both tidal and non-tidal portions of Weems Creek and its tributaries. Your input, as a stakeholder, will assist us in identifying other enhancement opportunities and continuing to make progress towards betterments to our communities.

The Weems Creek Watershed lies within the jurisdictions of both Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis. There are over 2,400 homes and businesses in the watershed, including these notable institutions: the Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis (Annapolis Mall), Anne Arundel Medical Center, and the Navy Marines Corp Memorial Stadium. Current and future projects will significantly impact our watershed. Collaboration among the various governmental, commercial, environmental, and citizens’ organizations are resulting in a private/public partnership model for watershed rehabilitation.

County Executive Janet Owens, Mayor Ellen O. Moyer, and state and local representatives have been invited to participate in this stakeholder meeting. We have a tremendous opportunity to make lasting environmental improvements to our Watershed. As a stakeholder, your input is essential for the success of these partnerships.

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, March 20, at 7:00pm. If you have any questions contact the Weems Creek Conservancy - Evan Belaga at (410)263-2102 or Corinne Reed Miller at oneRtwoNs@earthlink.net
