Porter Drive Outfall collects stormwater runoff from residents of Admiral Heights and the USNA Stadium. It joins Weems Creek at Steffen Cove.
Issues
Sediment
Sediment is carried to Steffen Cove at an alarming rate. Deposits have created a peninsula that has grown by over 20 feet in the last two years. Stormwater carries nutrients and sediments into the Creek, and increases water temperatures by several degrees.
Status
Mitigation for Medical Parkway - Summer, 2001
Anne Arundel County has agreed to provide mitigation for Medical Parkway construction by improving the Porter Drive Outfall. Original plans were for a "like-kind, out of watershed" mitigation on the Magothy River. The Conservancy convinced the county to provide "unlike-kind, in the watershed" mitigation instead.
Stormwater Re-design - Summer, 2001
The City of Annapolis has budgeted money to re-design the Outfall to improve stormwater management. A contract has been awarded for the initial design. The City and County are coordinating efforts on Porter Drive Outfall.
